Magnetic Contactor
how do i install a float switch and a magnetic contactor for a motor pump? (diagram)?
motor pump is used to fill a water tank…
Put a float switch that activates (closes its contacts) when the float level drops in series with the line voltage and the coil of the contactor (simple series circuit).
Put a pump motor in series with the normally open contacts of the contactor and the line voltage (another simple series circuit).
Now when the level gets low the float switch turns on and the contactor turns on. The motor is turned on when the contactor contacts close because its coil is on.
When the level rises as a result of pumping the float switch contacts open and the contactor coil is deactivated. That deactivation opens the contacts of the contactor and the pump motor stops.
In real life you might want to add an on/off switch in series with the float level switch so you can stop the pumping manually. You could put another hand switch in parallel with the float switch so you can start the pumping manually. Having another series hand switch near the pump to shut it off if you are working on it is also a good safety idea.
Having a fuse in series with the motor circuit is also a good idea.
