Dot matrix printer power problem?
wHEN I SWITCH POWER ON THE PRINTER WITHIN 5 SECONDS ITS TURN OFF AND PRINTER DOES NOT WORK . ITS A TVS ELECRONICS DOT MATRIX PRINTER MODEL# MSP 445. PLEASE HELP
Make sure the printer is not connected to anything besides having the power cable plugged in.
If the power light comes on and then goes off after 5 seconds then you have a short circuit somewhere in your printer.
What happens is the power supply starts to turn on and it senses an “over current” condition meaning that the smart circuitry in the power supply can tell that there is a short circuit which will draw too much power from the supply and so it shuts off rather than allow the short circuit to cause more damage.
You can look to see if something fell into your printer but if there is no obvious extra cause of the short then you will either have to have the printer repaired or replaced unless you know how to do troubleshooting and repair your self.
If the printer comes on but when you hook it up to your computer it shuts down then you might have a signal cable issue or something like that.
